Last night I tried to make chocolate shortcake with some gluten-free all-purpose baking mix. Mom had just found it at the grocery store and we thought we could try it out. I finished mixing up the shortcake dough and then tasted some. It was terrible. We looked at the box of all purpose mix and found out that it had fava bean flour in it, which caused the awful taste. Kirsten walked into the kitchen and found the dough. She thought it was cookie dough, and dug in. I stepped into the kitchen and found her there with a very awful expression on her face. I baked the dough and Kirsten, Dad, and Jonathan ate it with ice cream, fudge topping, strawberries and whipped cream piled on top of it and liked it. The rest of us weren’t brave enough and just had the ice cream and toppings. Not a sad ending, that’s for sure!
This morning Short Stuff, Kirsten and I were in a small skit at church. I used to get really nervous doing stuff like that, but now I enjoy it. I think I am a little more used to being infront of people than I used to be. Being a little older helps too.
Last Monday I got my hair cut at Great Clips in Pick ‘n Save. It was my first time having my hair cut by somebody other than Mom or Bethany. The lady that cut my hair was really funny. I’m surprised that she was able to cut my hair evenly, since I was laughing so hard.
Well now that I have written a post to relieve my conscious, (I haven’t written since February, and I’ve been feeling sort of guilty.) I think I will join my dad and brother who are playing frisbee with the neighbors.

Hurrah! You've posted!
ReplyDeleteI would have been brave enough. :P Bean flour in a cake is rather odd. Well, when you're using bean flour because you can't use regular flour, that makes sense, but what of those recipes like Spinach Brownies? You put spinach in the brownies just so the kids will eat the spinach and have some green in their life and so you can feel good about eating *gasp* brownies.
Why not just give the kids some non-candy and good tasting spinach dish? Why stuff it in a cake? And is your conscience seriously cleared and the scale happier if you put spinach in the brownies? Wouldn't it be better to not eat the brownies at all?
Anyway. Sounds like you had a interesting Saturday! Eating just toppings sounds pretty fantastic though. ;)
Nervousness is a pain in the neck. Glad you're (mostly?) over it! :D Hopefully I will someday too. You take baby steps and you get out of the introvert hole. Like I once heard a guy say, "It's like eating an elephant. You take one bite at a time." Come to think of it, it's probably illegal to eat an elephant. :P
Laughter makes everything so much more comfortable. That is, until your sides start aching. :P I see she was talented in more ways then one. :D
Frisbee with the neighbors, a sure sign of spring. Soon we shall oft smell the smell of evening grilling and always the ever present, distant mower. :)
I think anything would taste good with ice cream, fudge topping, strawberries AND whipped cream!
ReplyDeletePoor you, it's always disappointing when something you make doesn't turn out right.
Now, post again soon or I'll turn you in! (Not like I've posted myself in forever)

Yay, Miss JS FINALLY posted!!!!! This is a cause for great rejoicing!! :P Seriously, I'm going to have to consider putting you in Blogger jail. (Kiwi has one, I'll make one too!) You must post at least once a month. I know I'm not the greatest poster (no, I mean post-er :P) either... :P
ReplyDeleteThat skit was funny! :P Love it when the "Bethany Girls" perform. :P
I'd have tried the cake! With all the other stuff on it, that is. :P Mmmmmm...Who can resist ice cream with lots of toppings?! :D

Nota bene is Latin, it means "note well." :D
ReplyDeleteAhh, that explains it all, Owan. :P I want to know that answer to the riddle everyone's talking about! Why must I always miss all the good stuff because I go to the early service... :P
