Ditto

The evening light was dying as we gathered around the trampoline. The shadowy trees stretched their leafy branches above us, trying to touch the glittering stars hanging in the sky. Ringing out clearly in the cool air, our voices joined as we counted to twelve. Turning, I started racing through the grass, hoping, as they were, that I was not caught. We were playing Ghost In the Grave Yard, and I, for one, was spooked.

The swift, running figures around me turned into the backyard. I followed, and saw the "Ghost" merge into the crowd. Faster, Faster, FASTER! I thought, hurling myself forward. My friends scattered, each trying to get back to the trampoline before they were tagged. As I reached a small stretch of cement, I realized in dismay that I was losing balance and could do nothing about it. The "ghost" was behind me as I fell to earth, scrapping my hands and arms against cement. Ouch. I heard the "ghost" coming up behind me.
"Are You O.K?"
I looked up to see my friend slowing to a stop beside me.
"Yeah, I'm alright." I said, getting to my feet. We started making our way to the house. Another friend came up beside me, and asked me what happened. As I explained, I realized that my voice was all shaky. I wonder if I am going to start crying. Thankfully, I didn't. In the light of their kitchen, I inspected my wounds. Drat. I thought, seeing that my scrapes were small, and hardly noticeable. If I'm going to get hurt, I at least want it to be worth showing off! As my sibling said, "It would be nice if it gave a scar, that way people can look back at you and say, 'What war did she fight in?'" My story just goes to show that life is full of disappointments.

Just a side note, tomorrow is my recital, so if you could please pray for me that it all goes well, I would really appreciate it!
